Annual Safety Seminar
The annual BFA approved Heart of Dixie Balloon Club Safety Seminar is held each winter in Decatur, Alabama. Crew and Pilots are both welcome and encouraged to attend the seminar which lasts from about 8:00 a.m. till around 5:00p.m. Lunch is served and the seminar usually consists of several different speakers covering different areas of safety for balloon flight, ground crews, and even handling spectators.
Christmas Party
An annual event, the Heart of Dixie Balloon Club hosts and rousing christmas party each year; usually in Huntsville or Decatur, Alabama. The evening is a fun filled party usually involving copious amounts of alcohol ( if there is no flying the next morning) and the exchange of gifts by playing a game of 'dirty santa'. All members and families are encouraged to come and take part in the fun!
Crew Training
Each year one or two new crew training sessions are held. One of them is usually in May, just before the Alabama Jubilee, and the other is done as needed. Many pilots train their own crew during regular flights but it is often helpful for crew to trained, not only in their usual pilot, but with others as well. New crew training is a helpful tool for those who are interested in becoming involved in ballooning, so please contact us if you are interested!
Alabama Jubilee 2007
The Heart of Dixie Balloon Club is a major participant in the Annual Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic held in Decatur. The Jubilee, at it is known for short, is the largest and longest running annual balloon race held in Alabama. Pilots, crews, and spectators alike all agree that the Jubilee is one of best loved balloon races around. It is a low pressure, fun and relaxing atmosphere where all participants get a chance to fly, feed, and just have fun for three days. Many pilots have longtime sponsors that become old friends with themselves and the crews.
